Eymael Explains What Was 'Simple' In Beating Chiefs
Luc Eymael Discusses FS Stars Win Over Chiefs
Luc Eymael has explained what was made simple by his team in their win over Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend.
Free State Stars booked themselves a place in the final of the Nedbank Cup, following their win over Chiefs on Saturday.
Steve Komphela has since resigned from his position as the coach of Chiefs, with the Soweto giants confirming that Patrick Mabedi has been appointed as the team’s head coach for the remainder of the season.
Eymael has commented on the win over Amakhosi.
“You know, we were last in the final in 1994, and that was more than 20 years ago. It was a very good performance from us, especially as Chiefs are one of the most popular teams in the country. It was kind of a David and Goliath match if you compare the means that were in place, you know the possibility of buying players at Chiefs, and the difference with us is big,” said Eymael.
“I think we played very well and I want to congratulate my players, technical staff and medical staff and the board for the performance on Saturday. It was simple, we had to absorb the pressure of Chiefs. We knew that Chiefs would put pressure on us. We also had to go fast at the back of the wingbacks and to use our opportunities when we get one on one with the central defenders,” added the coach.
Harris Tchilimbou scored both goals for Ea Lla Koto, while Thela Ngobeni was also in top form in goals for Eymael’s side.
“We could have scored four goals, especially from counter-attacks in the second half. We won and that’s the most important thing. We got the revenge, which is what is also important,” concluded the Belgian.
The final is scheduled to take place on 19 May at the Cape Town Stadium.
