Absa Premiership action resumed for the first time in 2014 on Saturday when Orlando Pirates hosted SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the CHAN tournament taking place at the same time, the PSL scheduled fixtures for January to make up the fixtures that had to be postponed due to Pirates' participation in the CAF Champions League.
And despite dominating the match, Pirates suffered a 2-1 loss at home when Mame Niang and debutant Dino Ndlovu scored second half goals. Happy Jele pulled one back in the dying minutes but it was too little too late for the Buccaneers.
There are more PSL fixtures on Thursday this week, as Mamelodi Sundowns host Kaizer Chiefs in a top-of-the-table clash, while Pirates go to Durban to play AmaZulu.
Players in the Bafana Bafana squad from Sundowns and Chiefs will rejoin their clubs for the game, but with South Africa now out of CHAN, they will not have to return to the national team.
