Maritzburg United have denied having any link in terms of signing journeyman left back, Lizo Mjempu.
However, with the transfer window recently having opened and any potential deals still at the very early stages, it could be that the 30 year old's link with the Team of Choice could hold water.
Mjempu has turned out for the likes of Mpumalanga Black Aces, Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates in his PSL career. Yet, the defender seemingly hasn't really established himself as a player in Mzansi's top flight.
During his time with these other clubs, the Queenstown-born full back has made just a handful of appearances. Nonetheless, it may be that the defender could add value as a squad player if he were to secure a move to Pietermaritzburg in 2014/15.
With that said, Maritzburg are at this stage remaining cagey about how serious they might be about a potential move for the defender.
A source at the club told the Siya crew, "The club are not aware of any interest from him. There's been no word of any contact between the club and him. Having said that, people are away on leave and there's always a chance an inquiry has been made."
The crew put in a call to Mjempu to find out how much contact he or his representatives had made with United, however his phone rang unanswered at the time of publishing this article.
Soccer Laduma will monitor developments although at this point in time, according to Maritzburg, a deal for the player doesn't seem to be in the offing.
