It could have just been a way to deal with the number of injuries to key players at Kaizer Chiefs right now, but striker Emmanuel Letlotlo found himself on the bench for the first time since returning from his loan spell.
Letlotlo was loaned out to Baroka FC at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, but that agreement was cut short in January – with the player having failed to make a single appearance for Bakgaga.
His future at Amakhosi remained uncertain, and probably still is, but making the bench in their 3-2 win over Highlands Park on Saturday night could mean there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
With Khama Billiat out injured for the trip to the Moses Mabhida Stadium for the Absa Premiership encounter, coach Ernst Middendorp surprisingly drafted Letlotlo into the team – ahead of Gustavo Paez.
The 23-year old striker was an unused substitute, but Middendorp has in the last few days spoken about possibly giving him and young Nkosingiphile Ngcobo – a player headed to the under-20 World Cup in May – an opportunity to impress.
It was the first time this entire season that Letlotlo, who was promoted to the Amakhosi first team in 2016, made it as far as the bench having not been able to crack it into the match day squad at Baroka.
