Kaizer Chiefs' Leonardo Castro has won his first accolade since joining the club as he scooped the Goal of the Month award for January.

The Colombian became an instant hit with the Amakhosi faithful back in January as he came off the bench to score what proved to be the winning goal against Baroka in a 2-1 victory, smashing home from just inside the box with a fine left-footed strike.
Castro, 28, has managed to score two more goals since then – once in the Nedbank Cup and once in this month’s Soweto Derby – and will now be eager to try and aid Steve Komphela’s striking problems by grabbing a few more before the end of the season.
The forward scored 10 Absa Premiership goals in his debut season in the league while with Mamelodi Sundowns, but didn’t manage to score any in the 2016/17 campaign as he became more of a squad player than a starter.
Now, as he begins to find his feet at Naturena, an early accolade will no doubt help his confidence going forward, and Komphela will be hoping to reap the rewards as Chiefs seek to finish as high up the table as possible.
Despite having only played seven times for Chiefs, only three Glamour Boys have scored more league goals than him this season, and he still has a chance to challenge Ryan Moon – currently on four league goals – for the club’s Golden Boot.
