Lekgwathi & Phungwayo To Miss Champions League Clash

Orlando Pirates’ captain, Lucky Lekgwathi and Patrick Phungwayo will miss the CAF Champions League clash against AC Leopards on Saturday at Orlando Stadium due to the pair being suspended.

The 36-year old captain will miss the group stage match after receiving a red card in the match against TP Mazembe in July in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Phungwayo on the other hand will miss the Champions League match after accumulating continuous yellow cards throughout the competition.

Orlando Pirates’ Media officer, Thandi Merafe, disclosed to Soccer-Laduma, “Both Lucky and Patrick will miss the CAF game. They will be disappointed, but we will have to make the best out of this situation.”

These suspensions will add to the headache of player registrations in the CAF Champions League, as there are only four available spots for new registrations.

Bucs’ head coach, Roger de Sa would, in all likelihood, have been hoping to add Lennox Bacela and William Thwala after the duo have reportedly impressed Bucs’ technical team.

However, it appears that de Sa might need to think about registering one or two defenders in order to strengthen the backline.

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will clash on July 27, with the title of 2013 Carling Black Label Cup champions up for grabs.
