Update On Coach & 5 Chiefs Players

David Mogashoa, the Swallows FC chairman, hopes to leverage the club’s relationship with fellow Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs regarding players.

He also gave the Siya crew an update on coach Brandon Truter, who is understood to be on the radar of several Premier Soccer League teams having given the Dube Birds a fighting chance for promotion to the top flight next season.

They are second on the GladAfrica Championship log table, which puts them in the promotion play-offs as things stand.

Swallows currently have five Amakhosi players on loan from their Naturena neighbours – goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala, midfielders Given Thibedi, Ayanda Rorwana as well as strikers Sizwe Twala and Itumeleng Shopane.

With Chiefs yet to have their two-window FIFA transfer ban overturned and their appeal hearing only set for September 9, it’s likely they could recall these young players to provide depth when they won’t be able to register new players next season.

“We haven’t discussed this with Chiefs yet, but we are actually quite comfortable with them and we are confident they would not pull a fast one on us. They have been very helpful, and if they need the players they will come to us and tell us – they will give us enough time and won’t just pull them out,” Mogashoa explained.

“What I know about Chiefs is that they have a very good development structure, and that means they will have enough players. I anticipate only one possibly going back, which is Thibedi. But I don’t see them recalling all five players, especially because coach Arthur Zwane is doing well for their MDC team and producing a lot of good young talent.”

On Swallows coach Truter, who arrived after a decent spell with Richards Bay the season before, Mogashoa insisted he was going nowhere.

“I feel sorry for the interested parties because we’ve got an option to renew his contract and we are happy with his achievements. We just wanted him to stabilise the team and he has achieved more than what we wanted him to,” the chairman said.

“We are not going to let him go easily. My sense is that when we get promoted he is still going to be our coach. We are not going to look for a new coach because now we are in the Premiership. He has done well and will take us further.”
