Last Team Standing – Sundowns Left Alone

Defeats for both Bloemfontein Celtic and Highlands Park this weekend means that Mamelodi Sundowns are now the last team in the Absa Premiership who remain unbeaten.
Going into the games over the last few days, it was just the three clubs that were yet to taste defeat in their 2018/19 league campaign, with Pitso Mosimane, Steve Komphela and Owen da Gama all enjoying a solid start.
However, with Komphela’s Celtic being put to the sword in a 1-0 defeat to Maritzburg United, and Free State Stars seeing off Da Gama’s Lions of the North by the same scoreline, only Mosimane’s boys remain without defeat.
Given the fixtures for South Africa’s top-flight at present, Sundowns will get to remain unbeaten until at least October 3rd, with their next game coming on that date away from home against Komphela’s side in the Free State.
As things stand, it’s Orlando Pirates that find themselves sat on top of the Absa Premiership table, though have played two games more than Celtic and SuperSport, and three games more than Masandawana.
Sundowns are enjoying a welcome break at present after a hectic schedule in recent months, and with the side out of the CAF Champions League and MTN8 will get a rare two-week break between fixtures as they prepare to challenge for the rest of the trophies available in the coming months.
