Wits midfielder Asive Langwe has been selected as the 2013 ambassador for the annual Engen Knockout Challenge, with this year’s event being hosted by The Students.
Langwe played in the tournament during his days as a youngster with Wits’ juniors, and has now confirmed to the Siya crew that he is looking forward to his new role.
“I was told about it earlier this month. One of the roles I need to play is that I have to be there during the opening and closing day of the tournament. I have to say one word, or two, to encourage the players.
“I think there were four candidates for the position. I think there was a panel of judges that made the final selection. I played in the tournament in 2009. The tournament was my stepping stone. We lost in the final that year. I was promoted in the following year,” said Langwe.
The tournament is in its 10th year, having been initiated back in 2003. This year’s event will feature 16 teams, that will compete for the top prize, being staged between June 28-30.
