LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, has commented on the upcoming clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Spanish champions, FC Barcelona, that is set for next week.
The game will take place on Wednesday night having now been confirmed by both clubs, with tickets for the encounter rapidly selling out.
With fans around the country salivating at the prospect of seeing the likes of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta back on South African shores again, the leagues’ president says that he’s happy that fans will get to see their idols up close.
Tebas said in a statement, "We're delighted that one of our clubs, the 2017/18 champions no less, will be playing in South Africa. This is a historic event and we're very proud that our local fans will get to enjoy the stars and quality of the best league in the world at close quarters.”
There have been mixed reports regarding the kick off time of the game, with Sundowns confirming that it will get underway at 18h00, while Barcelona and Computicket say that proceedings will start at 18h15.
Meanwhile, Antonio Barradas, the director of LaLiga Africa, also explained that Barca’s top players will be coming to Mzansi to face Sundowns, mentioning Messi by name.
