The 22-year-old player, who has started three league games for Phunya Sele Sele so far this season, was rumoured to not be in the plans of Ernst Middendorp and, when an opportunity of a trial at Sundowns arose, he took it with both hands, hoping to impress Pitso Mosimane and his technical team.
The Siya crew recently reported that if Lakay impressed enough to be given a contract at Chloorkop, that would see Musa Nyatama moving to Celtic on a permanent basis. But for now it seems the former SuperSport United man will have to fight for a place in Middendorp’s team while waiting to see what will happen of the possible move to Sundowns.
“Yeah, I played in the friendly against Celtic on the weekend. It went well... we won 3-1, with Raymond Monama, ‘Sbu’ (Sibusiso Kumalo) and Khama Billiat scoring for us. I'm not sure what's going to happen with Sundowns, but I'm back training with Celtic because Ernst told me I have to come back and he wants to use me," said Lakay.
Efforts to reach Celtic management on the player's situation drew a blank, but keep your eye on the Soccer-Laduma website for any developments.
