Newly-appointed Maritzburg United coach, Steve Komphela, will spend his first week or so in charge assessing whether or not he needs to add reinforcements to his squad.
United's previous coach, Clinton Larsen, last year revealed to the Siya crew that serious plans were in place to possibly bring another striker into the club as the Team of Choice were struggling for goals upfront.
In addition, a raft of injuries to first team key players has also perhaps affected the team's continuity this season which has possibly contributed the most to some poor results on the field of play. Some new signings in key departments could be just what is needed to bring some stability back to the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit.
Komphela took over at Maritzburg on Monday and apart from conducting training to get the players in shape for the second half of the campaign, he will also reportedly assess and advise where he thinks reinforcements could be needed in the squad.
This objective was confirmed to the Siya crew by United's Team Manager, Quintin Jettoo. He said, "Yes, Steve will take a week or so to assess the squad now that he is in charge. He'll take a look and after that period of time we'll probably sit down and make a decision about the way forward."
Maritzburg get their 2014 schedule of matches off to a start when they take on University of Pretoria on February 5. The game will take place from 19h30 at Tuks Stadium in Pretoria.
