Komphela’s Complaints As Chiefs Draw… Again

Komphela’s Complaints As Chiefs Draw… Again

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 19, 2018 07:00 AM
Steve Komphela has complained about his side’s lack of goals after Kaizer Chiefs succumbed to a 0-0 draw against AmaZulu – their 12th draw of the current Absa Premiership season.

The Amakhosi are now seven games behind league leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, with only six games left to play, with Masandawana having a game in hand on the fifth-placed Glamour Boys.

Chiefs have now drawn 0-0 eight times this season as their struggles in front of goal continue, with Steve Komphela’s top scorer sitting on just four goals in the league so far

Speaking to the club’s official website after the game, Komphela said, “We got numerous chances to score, but we lacked the finishing touch to put the ball into the back of the net.

“AmaZulu defended well in the first half, but to defend the way they did demands sustained concentration which costs energy. It’s only possible to endure that kind of total focus for so long and that’s why we knew that we would get more goalscoring opportunities in the second half.”

Chiefs’ record for most draws in a season came back in 2005/06 when they drew 14 out of 30 matches, and with six matches left to play, there is a chance that they could equal or beat that record. They are – however – unlikely to set a new PSL record, with that being held by Santos Free State Stars and SuperSport United (17).

Komphela went on to say, “The table never lies… We are well organised defensively, but that doesn’t mean that we play defensively. We have a lot of attacking players in the side. Out of the 12 draws eight finished in nil-nil. That means that if we scored once, we would have won. We should have won many of these games as we created many chances. Our lack of goals has hindered our progress.”

Chiefs’ next game sees them face Free State Stars next month after the international break.

I have always thought Bra Steve was the most inteligent coach in the psl. The way he expresses himself in post match interviwes is of world class but i don't think coaching is his thing. A wise man will always know when to let go and i fail to understand why a wise man like Komphela cannot respect himself enough to know it is time to let go. I know he consider himself a fighter but some battles are not worth fighting. I wouldn't wanna loose a member of Steve's calibar and think it would be best if he is given another position in Naturena. Maybe PR position or anything that will suit his well cooked English.

I hope the next Chiefs coach is learning from Khompela's mistakes. Around this time of the season a good coach approaches every game with more attacking players ....score a goal or 2 then defend the lead in the second half ........Khompela starts every game defensively then introduce attacking players in the second half, piling pressure on them to grind results which is normally hard when opponents are applying all sorts of tactics (park the bus, fake injuries to waste time) AKAHAMBE UKOMPHELA ,, SIKHATHELE.

Chiefs always signs new players only to parade n bench them. Drop Parker N Shabba, they've run their races.....play new, young players who still have points to prove. Ntshangase, Zuma, Ekstien, Malongoane, Moon, Castro.....are some of the players Steve should be heavily relying on. Not Parker!!!!!

Chiefs must give us fans explanation as to why they are holding on to Steve. What is it that they are seeing, which we don't? We r tired now of raising our views n opinions about Steve cos seemingly no one is listening
