As expected by most in the football fraternity, the PSL has taken steps to bring Steve Komphela and Clinton Larsen to book following their post-match comments criticising the referees.
Free State Stars were thumped 4-1 by SuperSport United in game that saw Soriola Gege sent off and a number of decisions going against Komphela’s team, after which the coach had some choice words for Victor Gomes. Larsen’s Celtic were beaten by Sundowns, with John Arwuah getting sent off in what appeared to have been a harsh decision by the referee and the normally calm mentor lost his cool.
The PSL has released a statement indicating that action is being taken against the two coaches. The statement reads, “The Premier Soccer League has addressed formal demands in terms of the PSL Rules to Free State Stars coach, Steve Komphela and Bloemfontein Celtic coach, Clinton Larsen regarding comments made by both coaches this past weekend which comments the League view as bringing it, the game and sponsors into disrepute.
The statement continues, “Mr. Komphela has been given five days to respond to the demand from the League following his comments at the post-match media interviews after Free State Star’s fixture against SuperSport United in Pretoria this past week.
"Mr. Larsen has also been given five days to respond to the demand from the League following his comments to match officials and later at the post-match media events after their Absa Premiership fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.”
