Word reaching the Siya crew is that Steve Komphela has officially been confirmed as the new coach of Maritzburg United. The crew earlier broke the news that the 46-year-old had been lined up to take over and it was just a case of personal terms being agreed.
Soccer-Laduma since understands that a deal has been agreed that will see the former Free State Stars coach be in charge for at least two seasons if things go according to plan.
United's Team Manager, Quintin Jettoo, confirmed the news saying, "Yes, it's been agreed. Steve has signed a two and a half year deal with us. He met with the guys at training earlier today as well."
The experienced Komphela has good experience in the PSL and has in the past coached Platinum Stars, Ea La Koto and Manning Rangers. He also previously coached United in the 2006/7 campaign.
The Kroonstad-born mentor is already said to be hard at work with the team as United get ready for their first round of matches in 2014. The Team of Choice face University of Pretoria on February 5 in what could be a potential six-pointer for both sides in terms of the relegation dogfight this season.
