Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain, Itumeleng Khune, has been voted as the Soccer-Laduma Player of the Season by our readers. The readers voted for their star performer in the 2012/13 PSL campaign on the Soccer-Laduma web and mobi-site.
Chiefs clinched their first league title since 2005 last week and will be battling it out in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, with a league and cup double on the cards.
Khune has been instrumental in the team’s form this season with the South African international not only being a solid figure between the sticks, but being a true leader in his captain's role too.
The captain has acknowledged the team’s fans for their support, thanking his teammates, the Soccer-Laduma readers and the fans for their continued encouragement.
“I am very happy to win the Soccer-Laduma readers’ choice award. I have never won it before. But what am I getting? I think I will get a trophy for this,” Khune joked.
He went on, “But on a serious note, I thank the supporters who have always been there for me and the team, and also my teammates, for helping me achieve this. I am above all thankful to Soccer-Laduma for the award.”
The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper has also been nominated for four PSL awards, namely the Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, the PSL Footballer of the Season, the Absa Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.
