Kaizer Chiefs could be without their number one goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, when they head into next week’s vital Absa Premiership clash with Cape Town City.
The 29-year-old, who has played 25 games for the Amakhosi this season in all competitions, landed awkwardly during the penalty shootout that saw SuperSport United progress into the Nedbank Cup semifinals, and is now a doubt for the next game.
Khune won the Man of the Match award has he helped his side stay in the game for 120 minutes, however was unable to help them in the shootout as Stuart Baxter’s side claimed the win.
Now, with the defeat leaving just the league to play for with regards to the Glamour Boys’ hopes of a trophy, they go into their clash with the log leaders knowing that Khune may not be fit to play.
Speaking last night, Steve Komphela said, “I don’t know the Itu status… He fell badly on his hip in the first penalty, and apparently there’s a bone bruise that we have to monitor and check. We don’t have much time, so that as well is a challenge.”
Newly-signed Bruce Bvuma, who has been on the bench of late, could well now get his debut for the club with Brilliant Khuzwayo out injured after surgery.
