South Africa captain Bongani Khumalo feels his team showed signs of improvement in the goalless draw with Algeria on Saturday night.
Bafana Bafana matched the north Africans, ranked second on the continent and 19th in the world, in an evenly contested friendly at Orlando Stadium.
And while they were unable to register a win before they open the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde next weekend, Khumalo was encouraged by their display.
Khumalo said: "Well obviously it is an improvement from the last game, which is the least we expected going into this game.
"We were better organised in terms of our shape, we were compact most of the time and we played some pretty good stuff at times."
The former SuperSport United defender added that Bafana are in positive spirits ahead of the upcoming continental showpiece.
"Every team needs to believe they can win, and every teammate must support each other. We are keeping this spirit and will take it into our first game," he said.
