Doctor Khumalo, who will be Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach against Nedbank’s Ke Yona team this weekend, says that there will be some of their key players missing.
Chiefs, who won last year’s Nedbank Cup, will be facing a team of amateur players selected by Shakes Mashaba, Mike Mangena and Owen Da Gama on Sunday.
However, while there will be some members of the club’s first team squad taking part in the game, Khumalo explained that there would also be members of their development squad involved due to the Glamour Boys’ busy schedule.
Speaking at a press conference, Khumalo told the media, “We are ready and have been preparing for this game for a while now. You will also remember that there are no easy games for Chiefs. We will not field some of the best players especially those that have been overloaded in recent times.
“We have to manage the players carefully and not overload them as you know some have been on national duty recently in the CHAN tournament. We will mix some of the promising youngsters from our Development and the seniors that need game time.
"The players such as Brilliant Khuzwayo, Lorenzo Gordinho and Simphiwe Mtsweni who are part of the first Team will have a chance to show their skills in the game.”
The game between the Ke Yona team and Chiefs, who will be captained by Brilliant Khuzwayo, will take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium at 15h00, with free tickets currently available at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers.
