SuperSport United defender, Sibusiso Khumalo, sustained a ‘concussion and nasal fracture’ in last night’s defeat to AmaZulu.
The 24-year-old had to be taken off during the 1-0 loss after a collision with Usuthu’s Bongani Ndulula, with Matsatsantsa’s physios fearing the worst.
However, the club have since explained that there was no abnormality in Khumalo’s brain following a CT scan, but that he would need to see a specialist after fracturing a bone in his nose.
A statement from SuperSport said, “Sibusiso Khumalo sustained concussion and nasal fracture, CT scan was performed on the player and there was no brain structural abnormality but on facial bones it showed nasal fracture which needs to be referred to an ENT specialist.”
The news will come as a huge blow to head coach, Cavin Johnson, with Khumalo being one of the club’s standout players so far this season.
With Innocent Mdledle having joined Mpumalanga Black Aces on loan, it remains to be seen who will take Khumalo’s place at left back, though it may be that youngster, Brandon Dean, will be called upon for duty.
