Keshi Salutes His Team

Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi was a happy man after his team beat hosts South Africa 3-1 on Sunday night in their final CHAN group game at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday night, but gave all the credit to his team for the victory.

Nigeria and Mali now qualify for the quarter-finals, while host South Africa crash out of the tournament.

Keshi was pleased with how they fought to stay in the competition and though they had done very well.

“The boys fought, they fought like a wounded lion, they wanted to stay in this competition, that’s all. I’m very grateful to them, I salute them, they did wonderful.

“There was a bit of stage fright (in the first game), we’d not played any games, except for one friendly game, and I know their ability, I know what they can do, that’s why I knew we would qualify, and now we’ll take it game by game.”
