Ethiopian striker Getaneh Kebede has landed in South Africa to begin his trial with Wits. Soccer-Laduma revealed yesterday (Thursday) that Kebede has been linked with a move to the Braamfontein-based club.
News reaching the Siya crew is that University of Pretoria and Bloemfontein Celtic are monitoring the player’s situation with interest, although the 21-year-old was met by a Wits official on his arrival in the country.
A source close to Kebede confirmed the player’s presence at Wits. The source said, “The player has arrived. He is at Wits. Tuks and Bloemfontein Celtic were expecting him. There was a bit of confusion. He was picked by someone from Wits on his arrival.
“He arrived on his own. But there is someone from Ethiopia also coming to help with the communication because the boy doesn’t understand English well.”
Kebede has been playing for Dedebit FC in the Ethiopian Premier League. He is also an important member of the Ethiopian national team.
