Ke Yona, Chiefs Go To Penalties

Nedbank Cup

Full time: Nedbank Ke Yona 0-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 2 February 2014

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

In a rather dull Sunday afternoon the Nedbank Cup Ke Yona Team played out to a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs at the Lucas Moripe Stadium after 90 minutes, taking the match to a penalty shoot-out.

Both teams had very experimental teams on display and it showed in the level of play.

It was an extremely slow start to the game as both teams struggled to keep hold of the ball for sustained periods of play.

Both teams squandered possession with some poor passing and bad decision making in the final third.

The first opening on goal only came in the 23rd minute after a goalmouth scramble inside the Ke Yona box saw Nicholas Myndhardt poke the ball goalwards, but the keeper made a great fingertip save.

Six minutes later the Ke Yona team had their first real effort on goal when Sinqa let loose with a powerful shot from 24-yards out, but Brilliant Khunzwayo made a fantastic save.

On the half hour mark a swift passing move from Chiefs was concluded with Moshobane firing goalwards from 16-yards out, but Chibwe produced another good save, diving low to his right.

Seven minutes later and Khuzwayo was called on again, this time making an acrobatic save to deny Abrahams a powerful header from ten-yards out.

The half ended 0-0.

The second 45 saw Chiefs control the possession stakes, but for all their dominance they struggled to fashion decent goal scoring chances.

Instead, it was at the other end of the park where the first opening of the second stanza appeared in the 57th minute when Abrahams was slipped through on goal, but with just the keeper to beat he fired wide from 16-yards out.

Both teams played really poorly after that as neither side could create any decent chances in front goal as the game ended goalless.
