Katsande: Chiefs Showed Championship Mentality

Katsande: Chiefs Showed Championship Mentality

By Soccer Laduma - Jan 21, 2018 07:29 PM
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande says the AmaKhosi showed 'championship mentality' in their win over Baroka FC.

The Amakhosi rallied from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win over Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele, with goals from Ryan Moon and Leonardo Castro.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game. One of the coaches that coached me, once told me, ‘it only takes a second to score a goal’. The moment they scored, we knew they were going to be overconfident," Katsande told SuperSport after the game.

“We as professional players and a big team, knew if we take the game to them we were going to win it. At the same time, we wanted to turn the tables because they said we never won against Baroka.

"I think this is the turning point after coming back from a goal down in two consecutive matches it means this is a championship mentality and performance. I think credit must go to everyone in defence, they were amazing. We just need to build on this performance going forward.

When asked of their potential as a championship side following their back-to-back wins that moved them to third on the standings, the Zimbabwean believes they are on track.

“Yeh, obviously because if you can see the kids we have at the moment. They are exciting and us as senior players are there to guide them and tell them how it is to win something for a big team like Chiefs,” he said.

Wena Katsande it's time you sit on the bench. Meyiwa is ready to do us business I am tired of senior players who make school boy errors. How many chances did you missed in front of goals.

Good display of football by the Glamour Boys, it is good when senior players like Katsande are cool headed like this, it shows maturity and the potential we posses to claim victory, well done for Castro on his debut and getting that wonderful goal, you are a great addition to the team and it is showing. The glory days are back at Chiefs

It is good to hear players talking they way Willard did it shows confidence and self belief you don't have to wait for a coach to say "now we ready to challenge for championship" it has to start with players themselves way to go mate.I like people who have a winning mentality.
