After retiring from the professional game a couple of years ago, former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thembile Kanono says that he is hoping to establish himself in the coaching world.
The dreadlocked star decided to hang up his boots last year, after struggling to secure a new deal, having last played for United FC in the National First Division.
At the height of his career, he wowed crowds with his enterprising skills during his time at the Buccaneers, Santos and Bloemfontein Celtic, but now his main focus is to help young players realise their dream of playing in the professional ranks.
The Thaba Nchu-born Kanono told the Siya crew, “I’m coaching Motheo FET College in the Castle League. There is a big difference between coaching and playing and I’ve found that there are more challenges now. Playing was my thing, but it’s somehow difficult to pass it on to the guys.
“To be honest, I never thought I would one day be a coach. It just happened. But I have gradually fallen in love with it and, who knows, maybe this is where I’ll be more successful.”
