Maritzburg United have parted ways with Ronnie Kanalelo, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper accepting the position of assistant coach with the Namibian national team.
Kanalelo has been Maritzburg’s goalkeeper coach for the past two seasons. The Namibian told the Siya crew that he has been tasked with helping Ricardo Mannetti on the Brave Warriors bench.
“Ja, I’m taking up a position of assistant coach at the Namibian national team. I’m starting on the 1st of July. I will be working with Ricardo. I will be the first assistant to Ricardo. It’s not going to be easy. We’ll be doing a lot of work in the next two years. We’re hoping for the best with the hard work and ambition,” said Kanalelo.
The change in Namibia’s technical team comes shortly after the resignation of former AmaZulu coach, Roger Palmgren.
Maritzburg goalkeeper Virgil Vries, who worked closely to Kanalelo at The Team of Choice last season, is an important member of the Namibian national side.
