Motaung: We'll All Miss Shakes

Kaizer Chiefs Chairman, Kaizer Motaung, has expressed the club's sorrow at the sad passing of Isaac 'Shakes' Kungwane.

The former Chiefs star who was a widely popular and respected figure, died in hospital yesterday after failing to recover from a medical condition he was suffering with.

Motaung told the club's official website that Shakes' contribution to the football club would always be remembered.

"We received the sad news of Shakes' death. We will remember Shakes as a funny and a good ball distributor of note in his days. Shakes served Chiefs with distinction and will be remembered for the role he played during his playing career at Chiefs and at the other clubs. He arrived at Chiefs as a youngster and developed to be one of the household names in South African soccer history."

Amakhosi's Chairman concluded by saying, "In recent times, Shakes visited our homes through his television work. He brought his natural flair and humour yet insightful comments, we will miss all that. Our deepest heartfelt condolences go to bereaved family and friends. Psalm 23:4 says, 'Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me."

Kungwane was just 43 when he tragically passed on.

Soccer Laduma would also like to extend our condolences to his family.

May his soul rest in peace.
