Motaung Praises Wits, Singles Out Hunt & Klate
Kaizer Motaung showed his class this week as he offered his congratulations to Bidvest Wits following their first ever league title win on Wednesday night.
Gavin Hunt’s men brought a 96-year run without a title to an end as they beat Polokwane City 2-0, with Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2-2 draw with Maritzburg United sealing the Absa Premiership race.
Motaung, who has experienced many times what it feels like to lift the trophy, was quick to offer his compliments to everyone in Braamfontein, calling their achievement a ‘momentous occasion’.
He told Chiefs’ official website, “Congratulations to the Clever Boys. Well done. They fought a good fight from the beginning, leading to this historic achievement.
“This is indeed a momentous occasion in the history of the league and the club itself. It is a remarkable moment because Wits never won the league since their formation in 1921.
“Compliments to their Chairman, Brian Joffe and his management team for leading the Clever Boys to this immense glory. Coach Gavin Hunt and his technical team have done a marvellous job throughout the season to form Wits into a force to be reckoned with.”
Motaung went on to single out the Clever Boys’ head coach and veteran winger, Daine Klate, saying, “I also wish to congratulate Gavin for scooping his fourth league title. That’s a fantastic achievement. I also shouldn’t forget to mention Daine Klate for collecting his sixth league championship medal.
“We will receive Wits at our last game of the 2016/2017 season. We will be gracious hosts and honour the occasion with dignity.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs’ head coach also offered his congratulations earlier in the week, saying, “Congratulations to Wits. They have done well and Gavin Hunt deserves praise for his sterling job with his team.”
