Kaizer Chiefs are understood to have their sights set on Mamelodi Sundowns' versatile winger, Mzikayise Mashaba, as they look to bolster their wide attacking options.
Following the departure of Mandla Masango in the off season, Siphiwe Tshabalala has been moved to the right wing with George Lebese occupying the left flank. Ovidy Karuru and Sula Matovu are also options but have not seen much game time as of yet.
The latest news reaching the Siya desk is that coach Steve Komphela is looking to add to his wide attacking contingent, with a Siya source indicating that the technical team have asked the management to assess the player and consider moving for him in January.
“You know Komphela coached ‘Muzi’ at Platinum Stars and Free State Stars, and now he wants to bring him to Chiefs,” the source said.
“It’s still early to say what exactly is going to happen, but the technical team wants Mashaba at the club. Obviously Sundowns won’t let him just go so easily, but Chiefs want him,” he added.
Mashaba has been used both on the wing and at left-back by Downs coach, Pitso Mosimane, this season and it is unlikely that the Brazilians will let him go easily. The 26-year-old only has a year left on his contract but Sundowns do have an option to extend.
Would you like to see Mashaba make the move from Downs to Chiefs? Who else do you think Chiefs could look to in order to bolster their wide attacking options?
