Khanye Points Out Whose Fault It Is At Chiefs

With Kaizer Chiefs’ league title hopes dented at the weekend, after their loss against Chippa United, one of the club’s former players is concerned at the state of affairs in the team.

Although Chiefs still have a mathematical chance of winning the league title, the 3-0 loss against Chippa has caused an uproar, as some of the team’s supporters have not been entirely happy with the defeat.

“I have said this before, and I will say it again, Kaizer Chiefs is a big brand. There is a philosophy that the club has always been known for over the years. For example, before signing a player for Chiefs, there used to be checks on whether he is going to fit in the team and the style of play. That process is never done based on only how fit the player is, or how fast he can run, but on how he can fit into the system of Chiefs. It’s very important to go through that process and tick all the boxes,” former Chiefs midfielder, Junior Khanye told the Siya crew.

Following the weekend’s loss against Chippa, some Chiefs fans vented their frustrations towards coach Steve Komphela, after the match at FNB Stadium.

“I’m sorry to say this, but some of the players at Chiefs don’t deserve to be there in my opinion. Steve is not at fault here. The coach hasn’t done anything wrong. There are players that need to pull up their socks. Steve is playing players based on what he has seen from their performance in training. Don’t get me wrong, the players I’m talking about are good, but not good enough for Chiefs. You can see that some of the players are trying, but unfortunately, their attempts are not good enough for Chiefs. They are good for other clubs, and that cannot be disputed.

"For some of the players, we thought they would rise to the occasion in their second season with the club, but they still haven’t. That’s unacceptable. It doesn’t look like things will change for the better any time soon for those guys. If I have to summarise the story of those players, I would say they are simply not good enough. Those players need to sit down and ask themselves one by one, ‘I am good enough for Chiefs? Am I doing enough for the Chiefs badge?’ You can bring any coach to Chiefs now, I doubt if he can be able to change things much,” said Khanye.

Khanye has singled out the Amakhosi duo of Itumeleng Khune and Siphiwe Tshabalala as the players who the youngsters at Chiefs should look up in order to achieve success at the club.
