Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the Kaizer Chiefs players following their 1-0 loss to Maritzburg United on 11 March 2015.
Itumeleng Khune: 6
Was a quiet night for him in goal for the most part. He did not have much to do, but was his usual consistent self when called upon. The goal was not his fault as poor marking allowed Banda a free header at a corner-kick for the goal.
Kgotso Moleko: 6
Got a rare start in the right back position. He defended well and got forward in attack down the flank as well with some good crosses into the box.
Tefu Mashamaite: 6
Was solid in the heart of the Chiefs defence. Led by example with his high work rate and good work ethic. Did what was required of him in his centre-back role and made some great cover tackles. He also proved a threat in attack and had a header in the second half sail just over the target. The goal, though, was a result of a mix-up between himself and Mathoho when it came to marking.
Erick Mathoho: 6
Was a tower in the centre of the Chiefs defence once again. He did what was asked of him in his usual consistent manner and made some great cover tackles. The goal, though, was a result of a mix-up between himself and Mashamaite when it came to marking.
Siboniso Gaxa: 7
Played in the left-back role and did well. He defended well and also got forward in attack, although he often had to cut back onto his right foot to deliver crosses into the box. He was a threat in the box as well in the dying minutes of the game and even struck the crossbar with a scissor-kick volley.
George Maluleka: 6
Was one of the more enterprising Chiefs players in attack. He was creative and had a few shot son goal, but his radar was off as he fired numerous shots wide or high of goal.
Reneilwe Letsholonyane: 6
Was solid in his centre midfield role and offered some creativity in attack. He was, however, a little slow on the ball at times which saw him lose possession. Was substituted in the 72nd minute for Masango.
Willard Katsande: 6
Was his usual solid self in the defensive midfield role for Chiefs. He had a high work rate and often broke up attacks with his no-nonsense tackling in midfield.
Siphiwe Tshabalala: 6
Was creative in his midfield role and made some good openings for his teammates, both down the flanks and in front of goal with his accurate passing. He was not as threatening in front of goal as we have become used to.
Bernard Parker: 6
Was a quiet night for Parker in his role just behind the striker. He did not see much of the ball and when he did he often gave it away with poor passing or bad dribbling. He did deliver some good set-pieces into the box, but did not create enough.
Siphelele Mthembu: 6
Did not have many chances in attack. He did work tirelessly off the ball and had a couple of efforts on goal, but pulled them wide. Was substituted in the 64th minute for Rusike.
Matthew Rusike: 6
Came on in the 64th minute and did not have much of an impact.
Mandla Masango: 6
Came on in the 72nd minute and did not have much of an impact.
