Chiefs Assistant Joins Malawi Technical Team

Kaizer Chiefs' Patrick Mabedi Will Reportedly Join Malawi

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 06, 2018 10:05 AM
Kaizer Chiefs’ assistant coach, Patrick Mabedi, has reportedly been roped into the national team setup in Malawi by the head coach, Ronny Van Geneugden.

Mabedi joined the Glamour Boys as Steve Komphela’s number two last year following the exit of John Paintsil, with the Malawian leaving his head coaching position at Cape Town All Stars to make the move to Naturena.

Now, it appears that his work in Soweto has been recognised by his nation’s man in charge, with the Malawi24 confirming that the Belgian has hired Mabedi as his co-assistant alongside Peter Mponda.

The 44-year-old isn’t leaving the Amakhosi to take up this new position, and will only take up his national role on a part-time basis during international breaks and during the off-season.

It is not the first time that the former defender has worked with the Malawian national team, with Mabedi being given a temporary role in 2016 following the exit of Ernest Mtawali.

He must go for good , he is not good for Chiefs anyway. With Komphela leaving in June surely the new coach won't need him as assistant.
