Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach, Patrick Mabedi has explained how the Shell Helix Cup encounter helped the technical team to identify their areas that need improvement.
Chiefs suffered a 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the inaugural Shell Helix Cup competition on Saturday, July 21, with the Soweto giants able to experiment with new players and formations ahead of the new 2018/19 campaign.
Speaking to the media, Mabedi congratulated Sundowns and revealed why he thought it was a good outing for his side on the day.
“Congrats to Sundowns, it was a good test, it was a good game of football and we have to admit they were the better team on the day. We know we are in pre-season and it was good for us to see where we need to work on. I think as we go forward we can work on those moments. We should do better. We managed to compete, but (the) most important thing, we are in pre-season and saw different combinations. Overall we make sure we take this game as something to help us going forward,” he said.
