How Much Chiefs Paid For Castro...
Kaizer Chiefs Paid Upwards Of R2m To Mamelodi Sundowns For Leonardo Castro
Kaizer Chiefs opened up their chequebook in order to bring Leonardo Castro on board at the club, with the Amakhosi not wanting to wait until he was a free agent.
Castro was confirmed as a Glamour Boy earlier this week after Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns agreed on a transfer fee for his signature, although no details were given regarding how much was paid.
Masandawana lost some of their bargaining power when it came to a fee for the 28-year-old Colombian due to the fact that he would have been a free agent at the end of the season, although they did manage to make a bit of money on him as Chiefs decided to bring him in immediately.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, the Siya crew has been informed that Masandawana will receive upwards of R2 million for the sale of Castro, a substantial amount of money given the lack of spending that the club has done in recent years.
Castro joins the likes of Gustavo Paez, Bernard Parker, Ryan Moon and Emmanuel Letlotlo in the Amakhosi striking department, and with those four having scored just five goals between them this season, Steve Komphela will be hoping for an immediate impact.
The Colombian hasn’t played in any Absa Premiership games since back in mid-October, and it’s been almost two years since he last scored in a league game. Interestingly, his last goal was against Chiefs in April 2016.
