Manyama’s Euro Confession After Amakhosi Switch
Lebogang Manyama has admitted that maybe he was too old to go overseas when he joined Konyaspor in Turkey but hopes to bring his lessons with him to Kaizer Chiefs.
The new Glamour Boy finally made his Amakhosi debut last week as he started against his former employers, Cape Town City, in a game that ended 4-1 to the visitors, however, was left out for the 2-0 victory over Free State Stars earlier this week.
Manyama left the Absa Premiership for Europe after a stellar 2016/17 season for City that saw him land numerous individual awards, but he endured a tough time in the Super Lig and returned home with just a handful of appearances to his name.
Now, with the 28-year-old looking to help end Chiefs’ trophy drought, he told the club’s official website, “Turkey is a very tough environment to play soccer. It’s very tactical and the teams are defensively very compact and difficult to break down. I learnt a lot though and have become a better player.
“I was already 26-year-old when going to Turkey, while most players who succeed in Europe leave at a much younger age. I should probably have gone earlier, but that’s how it is.”
Manyama is likely to return to the side this weekend when Chiefs host AmaZulu at FNB Stadium.
