Chiefs Starlet Pockets R30k With PSL Gong
Kaizer Chiefs youngster, Itumeleng Shopane, has thanked his family after walking away with an award and R30k in prize money at the PSL Awards.
Shopane, who will shortly celebrate his 21st birthday, was named as the Player of the Tournament for the inaugural Multichoice Diski Shield competition after he helped lead the Amakhosi reserves to victory.
The 20-year-old only scored one goal in the tournament as Chiefs went on to beat Sundowns in the final, although he was present in all five matches and played a key role as they got their hands on the club’s only piece of silverware for the season.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the striker said, “I appreciate this reward. I wish to pass my gratitude to the entire Amakhosi Family for their support during the course of the season. Most of all, I want to thank as well my family and in particular my mother and brother for their support.”
It remains to be seen whether Shopane will remain with Chiefs next season after an unsuccessful loan spell with Cape Town All Stars in 2017/18, however he will be eager to try and make the step up to senior football as he targets the next step in his career.
