Itumeleng Khune’s market value has rocketed up over the last year, with only three players in the Absa Premiership now reportedly worth more than the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper.

The 31-year-old seems to have been getting back to his best over the past couple of seasons, playing an integral role in helping the Glamour Boys return to the CAF Confederation Cup and reach two semi-finals in 2018/19 so far.
According to transfermarkt.com, the goalkeeper’s market value was steadily dropping between mid-2014 and mid-2017, however, his form for the Amakhosi has seemingly been noted and he recently past the £1,000,000 mark for the first time in his career and is now said to be worth around R21m.
Having gone from R14.3m in July 2017, Khune rose to R16.8m at the start of 2018, and as of June 2018 the German website rates him as having a market value of R21.1m, a figure only bettered by Khama Billiat, Anele Ngcongca and Andile Jali.
Transfermarkt.com has Billiat topping the Absa Premiership charts at R32.1m, followed by Ngcongca at R23.5m. Jali, who recently returned to the Premier Soccer League, is marginally more than Khune with a reported value of R21.8m, while no other player in the league is judged to be worth more than R20m.
One major factor that could have contributed to Khune’s rise in value is the sheer amount of games that he’s been playing, with the goalkeeper rekindling some form and fitness in order to play 63 league games since the start of the 2016/17 season after playing just 25 in the two previous seasons combined.
