The German coach revealed at the weekend that the shot-stopper wouldn’t play for the Glamour Boys again this season, and it now appears that – while he will definitely miss Bafana Bafana’s clash with Libya in March – he may miss the tournament itself if they qualify.
The African Cup of Nations is due to get underway in June, around six months from now, and it certainly sounds as though Stuart Baxter will have to pick a different man between the sticks should they reach the finals in Egypt.
Middendorp said on the club’s official website ahead of this evening’s clash with Bidvest Wits, “Itumeleng Khune underwent shoulder surgery and should return in six months. Mulomowandau Mathoho is recovering from an ankle injury.
The website also went on to say, “Tower’ is out of plaster, is now using a moon boot and started some physiotherapy workout. Philani Zulu is recovering from a facial fracture, but he will still be out for three weeks.”
In other news, Ramahlwe Mphahlele is back in light training as he recovers from a knee injury, while Willard Katsande will undergo a late fitness test ahead of this evening’s clash with the Clever Boys.
