Desperate Chiefs Sweat On Injured Trio

Kaizer Chiefs are thought to be sweating on the fitness of three defenders as they go into arguably the most crucial two weeks of their season so far.

The Amakhosi face Platinum Stars this weekend as they seek to finish as high up the Absa Premiership table as possible, before facing Free State Stars one week later in an attempt to secure a spot in the Nedbank Cup final.
Chiefs haven’t won a trophy in more than two and a half seasons, and if Sundowns win this weekend then they will be officially out of the title race again this year, leaving them with just third place and the cup – both of which bring a CAF Confederation Cup spot – left to fight for.
With that in mind, Steve Komphela has some injury concerns going into the games, with Erick Mathoho, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Teenage Hadebe all not in full training following their respective injuries in the 3-0 defeat to Chippa United.
The Siya crew has been informed that while Hadebe is already suspended for this weekend’s game anyway, ‘Rama’ and ‘Tower’ remain injury doubts.
Meanwhile, Daniel Cardoso is one yellow card away from missing the cup semi-final, so will be treading on thin ice if he plays against Dikwena.
Chiefs this week reiterated their belief in finishing the season strongly with a statement on their official website, mentioning the chance of playing in continental competition as an incentive and referring to their situation as being ‘dire’.
Part of their statement said, “We appeal to the supporters for calm and patience as there is still a lot to play for in the league and the Nedbank Cup. We believe that there is a lot to fight for as the team is in the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup and there is a possibility of qualification for one of the continental competitions.
“Regardless of how dire the situation is, in the next few weeks, we sincerely appeal for calm, patience and good behaviour from supporters. We have to avoid endangering other supporters’ lives and the team.”
Chiefs have finished fifth and fourth in the last two seasons after winning the league title back in 2014/15.
