Chiefs Lose R22.4m Worth Of Stars… For Free

Kaizer Chiefs Have Let Many Players Go Again

By Soccer Laduma - Jun 15, 2018 07:00 PM
Kaizer Chiefs have, once again, had an end-of-season clearout at Naturena, terminating contracts and losing players for free in preparation for the 2018/19 campaign.
It was confirmed on Thursday that William Twala, Edmore Chirambadare, Sibusiso Khumalo, Tsepo Masilela and Keagan Buchanan had all agreed to a mutual termination of their contracts at the club as they go in search of regular game-time elsewhere, while Brilliant Khuzwayo’s contract expired and he joined Orlando Pirates.
Looking at’s market value of each of the players, the Amakhosi have lost on around R22.4m worth of talent by letting them leave for free rather than selling or swapping the players, a fact that will lead to questions being asked regarding their work in the transfer market.
According to the German website, Twala is worth R3.6m, Chirambadare is valued at R1.6m, Khumalo has a value of R4.8m, Buchanan is rated at R2m and Masilela – who helped the club to lots of silverware – is valued at a whopping R6.4m. Meanwhile, Khuzwayo, who left as a free agent, is valued at R4m.
Chiefs have promised an overhaul at the club after three trophyless seasons – the longest drought in the club’s history – and fans now eagerly await the players who will be coming in to replace those who have been let go.
Meanwhile, the club is also on the hunt for a new head coach following Steve Komphela’s resignation at the end of the campaign.
Do you think Chiefs were right to let these six players leave?

To be honest if the employee is not producing and still get paid full salary every month, that's the waste to the employer. Release the employee to pursue the better prospect elsewhere.

I think Khumalo is way better than Zulu at left back. Why is he leaving? I thought Thwala could improve under a better coach, he needs self belief more. He has skill and pace, something that is important for the modern game. He can cross the ball better if trained correctly.

@Mphumzoh sometimes this thing of releasing players is more about them and not the team. If they feel there is no reason to stick around with or without the club having a new coach they must be set free.

Chiefs is taking us for granted, this players they let go, they were never given a chance to play, so it means Chiefs did not get read of the deadwood yet. Come next season we still stuck with useless players

This is not only happening to Chiefs. Many other teams are losing players on free transfers. I have also noted that a lot of people are being referred to as Chiefs targets even though there hasn't been a clear indication there there had ever been serious negotiations. Various publications are very much aware of the fact that Chiefs sells, thus deeming it profitable to compose nonsensical articles on "Chiefs targets." Be that as it may, we the Khosinstion are very much disappointed that our club seems to be approaching the market no differently this time around. We are concerned that even this time around we could end up deploying a garbage truck to collect players from Zimbabwe. Motaung doesnt realise that if one has to recruit a player from Zimbabwe, that player has to be an exceptional talent, something that doesn't come out regularly from that country. Chirambandares and others were not better that our own players in MDC.
