Chiefs Lose R22.4m Worth Of Stars… For Free

Kaizer Chiefs have, once again, had an end-of-season clearout at Naturena, terminating contracts and losing players for free in preparation for the 2018/19 campaign.

It was confirmed on Thursday that William Twala, Edmore Chirambadare, Sibusiso Khumalo, Tsepo Masilela and Keagan Buchanan had all agreed to a mutual termination of their contracts at the club as they go in search of regular game-time elsewhere, while Brilliant Khuzwayo’s contract expired and he joined Orlando Pirates.

Looking at transfermarkt.com’s market value of each of the players, the Amakhosi have lost on around R22.4m worth of talent by letting them leave for free rather than selling or swapping the players, a fact that will lead to questions being asked regarding their work in the transfer market.

According to the German website, Twala is worth R3.6m, Chirambadare is valued at R1.6m, Khumalo has a value of R4.8m, Buchanan is rated at R2m and Masilela – who helped the club to lots of silverware – is valued at a whopping R6.4m. Meanwhile, Khuzwayo, who left as a free agent, is valued at R4m.

Chiefs have promised an overhaul at the club after three trophyless seasons – the longest drought in the club’s history – and fans now eagerly await the players who will be coming in to replace those who have been let go.

Meanwhile, the club is also on the hunt for a new head coach following Steve Komphela’s resignation at the end of the campaign.

Do you think Chiefs were right to let these six players leave?
