Kaizer Chiefs have laid down the challenge to professional rugby union outfit, the Blue Bulls, to take part in the charity-inspired ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The Amakhosi have also nominated Banyana Banyana, as well the South African Women’s Netball Team.
The ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ is an initiative that has gained massive popularity globally on social networks. Well-known sports stars and celebrities such as Steven Gerrard (Liverpool midfielder), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City striker), Didier Drogba (Chelsea striker), Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers basketballer), Neymar (Barcelona winger), Wiz Khalifa (rapper) and Mesut Ozil (Arsenal midfielder) and Eminem (rapper) have all taken part.
Chiefs recently took part in the initiative after the first team squad were doused with ice cold water at Naturena. Other PSL clubs to take part in raising awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) are Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns.
After accepting Ajax’s nomination to take part, Chiefs captain, Itumeleng Khune, issued the challenge to the Blue Bulls, Banyana and the SA Netball team. He said, “We accept Ajax Cape Town’s ALS challenge. We’d like to challenge the SA Women’s Netball Team, Banyana and the Blue Bulls.”
So far Orlando Pirates are the only remaining major club in Mzansi yet to confirm their participation in helping the less fortunate.
