Bidvest Wits’ title hopes have been dealt a blow as the Premier Soccer League handed out a four-game ban to two players, but it could help league leaders, Kaizer Chiefs…
The PSL found Ricardo Goss and Sameehg Doutie ‘guilty of abusing match official Mr Masixole Bambiso’ in their clash with Cape Town City back in January, and have consequently been banned for eight games – four of which are suspended, while ‘Bidvest Wits was sanctioned with a fine of R150,000 for bringing the League into disrepute’.
It means that Goss and Doutie will miss games against Chippa United, Black Leopards, Real Kings in the Nedbank Cup, and Chiefs, news that will come as a blow to Gavin Hunt as he hoped to try and close the gap on Amakhosi at the top of the table.
Goss is likely to be replaced by Brandon Petersen, who has played nine league games this season, in goal, while Doutie will also need to be replaced having started 10 league games in 2019/20 so far.
Wits are yet to comment on the situation, but will not be too surprised by the punishment given that Mpho Makola was previously handed a six-month ban that was eventually reduced to four games after appeal.
