Chiefs Still Have Defender Contract Option
Kaizer Chiefs Have An Option On Tsepo Masilela
Tsepo Masilela made his first appearance since August over the weekend, and did so as a central defender, while his future at Kaizer Chiefs remains up in the air.
The 32-year-old full back is currently in his sixth season with the Amakhosi since returning to South Africa from Europe back in 2012 and has made over 140 appearances for the club as he helped them to two Absa Premiership titles as well as the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies.
Now, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, Chiefs have a decision to make with regards to the one-year option that they still have on his contract at Naturena.
Masilela has played just three games in the league this season as he battled with injury, although his experience could be seen as key going into the new campaign after yet another trophyless year.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, there has still been no word on the defender’s future at the club, but often the team with the option has until May 31st to exercise it, meaning that there can be no discussions with other interested parties until that deadline has passed. If that is the case here, Chiefs could look to the next few games before making a decision.
Mike Makaab, the player’s representative, told the Siya crew last month, “At this point, nothing has changed. I’ll be meeting with Chiefs this month, and the signs are positive with his rehab. I’ll sit down with them and see what the way forward is with regards to his future.”
Do you think Chiefs should exercise their option on Masilela?
