Kaizer Chiefs are expected to field an entirely new back four going into the clash with Cape Town City amid an injury crisis that sees three key players ruled out of action.
The Amakhosi take on the Citizens in the Mother City on Wednesday evening as they chase their first win of the campaign, but they will have to try and do so without regulars such as Erick Mathoho (suspended) and injured duo, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Tsepo Masilela.
Steve Komphela has only two available centre backs – Lorenzo Gordinho and Daniel Cardoso – due to Mathoho’s suspension and Teenage Hadebe’s injury, while Kgotso Moleko and Philani Zulu are practically his only choices at right and left back following injuries to ‘Rama’, Masilela and Sibusiso Khumalo.
There was some positive news following the return of Itumeleng Khune from a chest infection, and with that in mind, it is expected that their backline will consist of Khune, Moleko, Gordinho, Cardoso and Zulu.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Siyabonga Ngezana is also likely to make the matchday squad as the only other first team centre back available, although will probably only make an appearance if something happens to Gordinho or Cardoso.
A positive for Komphela, though, is that Gordinho and Cardoso are yet to taste defeat when they have started at centre back together.
City host Chiefs at 19h30 at Cape Town Stadium tomorrow night.
