The Glamour Boys beat the Lions of the North 3-2, however remained in sixth place as SuperSport United also picked up a win over Chippa United.
With eight Absa Premiership games left to play, the Amakhosi have finally managed to pass the 30-point mark, but remain eight points behind league leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.
Speaking after the game, where Chiefs almost let things slip, their coach explained that it’s easier to work on their errors when they have at least picked up the three points.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Middendorp said, “We’re at that stage of the season where points matter most… The match was tough. Credit goes to Highlands Park. They really gave us a run for our money. It’s not always about how you play, it is about getting the points in the bag.
“We conceded soft goals, but when you score more goals than the opponent, it is easier to work on the mistakes. We will take these three points and go back to the training grounds to prepare for our next match.”
Next up for Kaizer Chiefs is a Maritzburg United side fighting for their lives, and Middendorp will be eager to compound their misery and get another win on the board as the head into the business end of the season.
