All Over: Castro’s Debut Amakhosi Season Is Finished
Kaizer Chiefs Fans Won't See Leo Castro Again This Season
Leonardo Castro’s debut season at Kaizer Chiefs has come to a disappointing end, with the Colombian set to play no further part for the club.
Castro was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Trevor Mathiane in the early stages of Chiefs’ clash with Golden Arrows, with the Amakhosi going on to lose 3-1 as they succumbed to straight defeats for the first time in a year.
The 28-year-old’s dismissal means that he will have to miss Chiefs’ final two games – against Maritzburg United and Ajax Cape Town – and will only be able to return to the squad once the 2018/19 season gets underway later this year.
Since signing from Sundowns in January, Castro has made 15 appearances for the Glamour Boys, scoring three goals and notching one assist, a record that he will be unhappy with, given the hype that surrounded his move from Chloorkop.
Interim head coach, Patrick Mabedi, will now have to look to the likes of Ryan Moon and Gustavo Paez to lead the line for the last two matches, but whoever comes in as Steve Komphela’s long-term replacement will be eager to have Castro firing on all cylinders when the Absa Premiership resumes next season.
Meanwhile, Chiefs have Daniel Cardoso, Kgotso Moleko and Joseph Molangoane on one yellow away from suspension and at risk of missing the final game of the season next month.
