All Over: Castro’s Debut Amakhosi Season Is Finished

Kaizer Chiefs Fans Won't See Leo Castro Again This Season

By Soccer Laduma - Apr 25, 2018 01:00 PM
Leonardo Castro’s debut season at Kaizer Chiefs has come to a disappointing end, with the Colombian set to play no further part for the club.
Castro was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Trevor Mathiane in the early stages of Chiefs’ clash with Golden Arrows, with the Amakhosi going on to lose 3-1 as they succumbed to straight defeats for the first time in a year.
The 28-year-old’s dismissal means that he will have to miss Chiefs’ final two games – against Maritzburg United and Ajax Cape Town – and will only be able to return to the squad once the 2018/19 season gets underway later this year.
Since signing from Sundowns in January, Castro has made 15 appearances for the Glamour Boys, scoring three goals and notching one assist, a record that he will be unhappy with, given the hype that surrounded his move from Chloorkop.
Interim head coach, Patrick Mabedi, will now have to look to the likes of Ryan Moon and Gustavo Paez to lead the line for the last two matches, but whoever comes in as Steve Komphela’s long-term replacement will be eager to have Castro firing on all cylinders when the Absa Premiership resumes next season.
Meanwhile, Chiefs have Daniel Cardoso, Kgotso Moleko and Joseph Molangoane on one yellow away from suspension and at risk of missing the final game of the season next month.

The team is so demoralised. Look at how Khune, Shabba and Cardosso are dragging themselves on the field these days. Spectators don't really understand how players can get badly affected when fans misbehave.

@PHAZAMISA AKA NGOZI THE RETURN, my man, some of the things are obvious, family business have declared a complete overhaul which means a large number of their employees, including players, will be dismissed. Who are they going to recruit? Free agents, you know free agents don't win trophies.

He deliberately did that because he will ask to go home and come back when the season starts. That's what he was doing at Sundowns. Always home sick.

@PHAZAMISA AKA NGOZI THE RETURN Agreed Khosi, Castro does have some class abt him nd I like de aggression too. If the new coach can pair him with Dumisani in the main with Paez as an alternative.

Chimpanzees don't listen when we say Castro is ill-disciplined look now he accumulated red card so that he can leave early before the season end and still he will extend his stay before he resume new season training.

Yes, he is suspended for two games for trying to prove he can do better than Sirino.
