Kaizer Chiefs have extended their partnership with the largest sports brand in the world, Nike.
The Siya crew can confirm that Amakhosi and Nike have put pen to paper on a new deal that will see their partnership extended on a long-term basis.
Chiefs, arguably the most marketable team in the country at present, have a number of sponsors on their books these days, with Nike having been their official technical sponsor for a number of years now.
Nike’s communications manager, Seruscka Naidoo, confirmed the renewal of their partnership.
"We are happy to renew our partnership with Kaizer Chiefs. Consistent with all partnerships, our contracts remain confidential," he said.
The Siya crew can confirm that German sporting giant, Puma, was looking to negotiate with Chiefs ahead of their sponsorship renewal, though they were forced to stand down after Nike and the Amakhosi came to their new agreement.
Meanwhile, the Amakhosi’s other two main sponsors, Vodacom and Hollard Insurance, are also believed to be in talks to extend their relationship with the club going forward.
Vodacom agreed a R1 billion five-year deal with Chiefs and Orlando Pirates back in 2012 – a deal that will end next year – and the crew has been led to believe that talks are underway to make sure it doesn’t expire in 2017.
It remains to be seen how long Nike and Chiefs’ renewal will run, however it is good news for both parties that talks have been fruitful so quickly.
