Kaizer Chiefs could look to reignite their interest in Thabo Rakhale as the club is set to finally be permitted to sign players again at the expiry of their FIFA transfer ban at the end of the season.
Since Rakhale was first linked with a move to Chiefs from his days at Chippa United in 2018, some of Amakhosi fans have been eager to see the former Orlando Pirates star join their team.
As part of the plans to mend their relationship with the fans, which saw some supporters march to Naturena on Friday morning to voice their frustrations about the club’s current situation, it is believed that Chiefs could consider signing Rakhale.
According to sources, Rakhale’s name has come up again in the discussions about players likely to join the Soweto giants, with the club believed to be aware of his contract situation at newly -crowned Nedbank Cup champions Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Having joined TTM in November, the skilful player will see his contract expire at the end of the season.
Jomo, as Rakhale is known in football circles, previously told the media that he would consider playing for Chiefs if they make an approach for his services.
Contacted for comment, Rakhale’s representative Mandla Mthembu confirmed that the 31-year-old player will soon be a free agent.
“Yes, it’s true that Thabo Rakhale’s contract with TTM will be coming to an end in June. He signed a short-term contract when he joined the club. But, at the moment, the contract issue is not what the player’s focus is at. He is focused on the job at hand, and that is to help the club to finish the season on a high in the league,” said Mthembu.
Meanwhile, high-flying AmaZulu are believed to be watching Rakhale’s situation with interest as they will be looking to further strengthen their squad for next season after doing well this season under Benni McCarthy.
