Chiefs’ Worst Start In Nine Years…
Kaizer Chiefs are currently enduring their worst start to a league campaign in nearly a decade, with the club looking to make sure they don’t go four games without a win on Friday.
The Amakhosi drew 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns, lost 3-1 to Bidvest Wits and drew 1-1 at Baroka in their opening three games of the 2018/19 campaign, failing to win any of their three opening games for the first time since back in 2009.
Giovanni Solinas did manage to get his first victory as head coach over the weekend as they beat Free State Stars 3-0 in the MTN8, though his first league win continues to elude him.
Chiefs face Maritzburg United – who are also without a win in 2018/19 so far – this weekend, and if they don’t manage to beat the Team of Choice then they will equal their worst start to a league campaign since they drew to SuperSport United, Thanda Royal Zulu, Jomo Cosmos and Ajax Cape Town at the start of 2006/07 season.
As things stand, the Glamour Boys are sitting 13th on the Absa Premiership table, and will be eager to make sure they don’t slip further down the log come the end of this weekend.
Chiefs take on Maritzburg at Harry Gwala at 20h00 on Friday evening.
