Published an “exclusive”, Ghanaian football website Kickgh.com yesterday claimed Maritzburg United had signed a goalkeeper to replace Richard Ofori.
It further claimed that the Premier Soccer League outfit had finally agreed a deal with Orlando Pirates for their No.1 to move to the Soweto giants after they’d secured the services of Felix Annan, the 25-year-old who plays for Asante Kotoko and is Ofori’s compatriot.
But Maritzburg chairman Farouk Kadodia rubbished the report.
“No, I don’t know where the story is coming from. We’ve had no talks with the player concerned, and we still have Ofori on our books until somebody else comes to us with an offer to buy him,” he told the Siya crew.
It’s no secret that Ofori, who is Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper, is in demand, with Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns said to be keen signing him next season.
He is still contracted to the Team Of Choice until June 2021 after the club exercised the option they had on top of his initial three-year deal.
“There’s no concrete offer for Ofori, so there’s no need for us to go and buy a goalkeeper. I don’t know whether the agents are creating stories because we have definitely not spoken to anybody. Maybe they are trying to find a new club for the guy,” said Kadodia.
